The Proposal

I, Democratic Party, do take you, Republican Party, to be my partner in the rebuilding of this country to its greatest potential. I promise that I will do my best to listen to your side and share any ideas that I feel will make this country a better place to live and to make sure that the citizens of this country benefit from our plans and decisions.

This would be a great start to have the two major political parties form a harmonious union and learn to work together to do what's right by all citizens and not work for the sole purpose of promote either side's agenda. As with any marriage between two people or things, the only way for all concerned to benefit is to

The Healthcare Debate

Hear Me, Hear Me!!!

i watch a lot of political shows and get most of my information from them. i must say that the one's i watch are biased toward a particular political agenda. but that's okay with me, it serves its purpose of informing me about the political topics of the day while, at times, attempting to entertain me in the process.

nonetheless, the point i am trying to make is that i try to watch what i can so that i am somewhat informed about the issues that are being currently debated at any point and time. one that has me particularly upset at the moment is the healthcare reform issue. Now, if I'm being honest, I'm not sure i fully understand exactly WHY the healthcare industry needs reform, other than what i hear on my political news shows, but i can say that what i have heard i do believe has some truth to it, one, and two, it does sound as though it needs some adjustments. i do, however, know for a fact that there are certain insurance companies that will not insure you if you have a pre-existing condition, and i do know that most middle- to low-income employees who lose their job cannot afford COBRA payments and will therefore be without insurance until they find other employment that offers healthcare. Another fact, and one that is more personal for me, is the inability to carry your child on your insurance after age 23 - i would like to see that age limit increase a few years, especially in this tough economy, where it is extremely difficult for recent graduates to find employment. Now, granted, I happen to live in a state where Family Health Plus programs are a godsend, and it helps a great deal. if i am not mistaken, this is a state-subsidized or federal-subsidized program and it really does work, for most health issues. (i hope we don't have to test it for surgery or anything too serious, because I'm not so sure about that.)

with that being said, i am also of the belief that, like myself, if folks are being honest with themselves, they can repeat my previous words verbatim, and have it ring true for at least 80% of what i have stated. which brings me to the reason for this entry.

i don't believe for one minute that what is currently happening in the august recess town hall meetings is the right thing for this nation - especially now. the msm, on the left, is also ramping up a little hatred of their own, under the disguise of informing us, by telling us on a daily basis that our beloved democratic process is being railroaded by the day by the sheer stupidity of what is happening with those who wish to disrupt the process of real debate. i know of least two or three town hall meetings where this is happening and i don't care if it was just one - it's dead wrong. if i take time out of my day to attend an event that i am either there to obtain valuable information or to express my concerns and/or disagreements, i expect to be heard. you have to have a certain type of mentality to believe that it's okay to be disruptive and disrespectful to other fellow citizens who may share some of the same concerns, but are unable to engage in meaningful dialogue because someone wants to shut down the show. what is more surprising than that is the fact that more people are not outraged by this and if they are where is the msm's reporting of this! where are the people who are in strong support of this health care reform and why can't we hear their voices.

Well, tonight I decided that i at least want my voice to be heard. I want those who are uninformed to get the information, i want those who have grave concerns about this bill to intelligently explain their position - who knows, if they make a good argument, they may actually garner some support or at the very least bring some people over to their side. I want people who are within an earshot of stupidity and ignorance to recognize it and very neighborly, do something about it. i want people to stop confusing the issue of health care with their obvious feeling of hatred for this first African-American President. I want them to get over it, stop asking for their "America back" and get used to the fact that the white-male ruled America that they once knew is over - for now at least. But here's the scary part. These nutcases are screaming just loud enough for the rest of their flock to hear and they ARE starting to generate a buzz and maybe, just maybe, if the rest of us just sit back and do nothing, we will have no one to blame when things slide back into place and we hand America back over for the white males to dominate this increasingly ethnic nation.

Now, tweet that!

The American Dream

Some say, that the American Dream has become the pursuit of material prosperity - that people work more hours to get bigger cars, fancier homes, the fruits of prosperity for their families - but have less time to enjoy their prosperity. Others say that the American Dream is beyond the grasp of the working poor who must work two jobs to insure their family’s survival. Yet others look toward a new American Dream with less focus on financial gain and more emphasis on living a simple, fulfilling life. (Library of Congress) What are your thoughts?
